Centres for Cardiology

The specialist fields of angiology and cardiology cover all disorders of the cardiovascular system.

Treatment options

This includes the threat of heart attack and stroke, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, renal artery stenosis and the treatment of the corresponding risk factors (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking) as well as cardiac arrhythmia, heart valve changes, heart failure, aneurysms, thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, varicose vein disorders and oedema of various origins.

In addition to comprehensive assessments and tailored medical treatments, we also offer interventions using catheter technology (balloon therapy, stent implantation, minimally invasive aneurysm treatment). If necessary for our patients, we work with vascular surgeons, cardiac surgeons and rhythmologists.

The team in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory

If one of our cardiologists suspects a circulatory disorder of the heart muscle, a cardiac catheterisation must be carried out. This takes place in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory, where our experienced team ensures that diagnosis and treatment are carried out without delay.

Both diagnostic and interventional procedures are carried out in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory. A thin plastic catheter is inserted via the inguinal artery or the wrist to the heart. X-ray images and contrast media are used to visualise constrictions or blockages in the coronary arteries, which can then be treated immediately by using the catheter balloon to expand the constrictions and, if necessary, insert a stent.
